“Broken Beauty” was the title of this sermon series which inspired this project into action. The mosaic art style needed a ‘canvass’ that could serve as an evolving art piece that could be displayed over the 6 weeks of Lent. After the wood cross frame was built, ceramic mosaic pieces were added each week to exhibit how brokenness can be transformed into beauty. Professional mosaic artists were brought in to teach style and techniques to volunteers which created a beautiful mosaic art piece that transformed from a seasonal set design element to a permanently displayed piece of art.
